Stocking a gluten free kitchen on a budget

This post was sponsored by Sprouts Farmers Market. All thoughts and ideas are my own.

Stocking a gluten free kitchen on a budget can be very tricky… but only if you don’t know where to shop! In this post, I’m going to show you the gluten free pantry staples, gluten free refrigerator staples, and gluten free freezer staples I keep on hand at all times. Keep reading for a tour of my kitchen and how I stock our gluten free kitchen on a budget.

Reminder: My husband has celiac disease so we keep a mostly gluten free kitchen (a few of the snacks my girls enjoy aren’t gluten free, but for the most part, we all eat gluten free just to make life easier. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, and barley naturally, and in oats when they’re processed. So, all of the products below are free of wheat, rye, barley, and non-GF oats.

As you saw last week, all month long I am sharing why I love shopping at Sprouts. Last week I showed you exactly how I shop and what I buy on a weekly basis. This week, I will show you what products I keep on hand and where I store everything.

Sprouts is my one-stop-shop to get everything I need for our family. They always have the freshest, organic produce and a variety of unique items I don’t see anywhere else. The best part is that I always spend less when I shop at Sprouts!

Stocking a gluten free kitchen on a budget: Shopping store brands will save you money…

I feel like this might be a given, but buying store brand products at any store will save you money, especially when it comes to buying specialty products like gluten free snacks, condiments, frozen foods, etc. Store brand foods are often made by the same manufacturers that name brand products are, but they’re significantly cheaper!

At Sprouts, the options are incredible! And after getting to go behind the scenes at their corporate headquarters in the summer of 2018, let me say, they only seek out the best of the best manufacturers and co-packers to produce their Sprouts Brand products.

They have everything from pantry and refrigerator staples to novelty products you’ll find yourself wanting to buy each week. And many of the Sprouts brand products are certified gluten free!

I’ll show you a few of my faves below, but you can click here to view all of the Sprouts Brand gluten free products (there’s a lot!) .

Combine all of these amazing Sprouts Brand products with their gluten free name brand selections and you really can’t go wrong. Each week, at least 1/3 of the store is on sale and they often have store-wide sales on all their gluten free products. Make sure to check those weekly sales!

Stocking a gluten free kitchen on a budget: Pantry staples

These are the Sprouts Brand staples I always have on hand in my pantry:

  • Specialty products/snacks: Coconut rolls, Dark chocolate covered rice cakes, PB&J bites, Peanut puffs

  • Baking supplies: unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar

  • Oils and vinegars: Avocado oil spray, coconut oil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar glaze

  • Other: GF rolled oats, Lentil pasta

  • Canned goods: Coconut cream, Pumpkin, Low sodium beans, Tomato sauce

A lot of my pantry essentials like flours, nuts, seeds, baking supplies, etc., come from the Sprouts Bulk Bins…

*Disclaimer: The bulk bins are not a certified gluten free space, so please follow your standard rules given to you by your physician for cross-contamination and know what your body does or does not react to. For us personally, my husband does not react to minor cross-contamination and has been given permission by his GI doc to eat things that are naturally gluten free from the bulk bins: nuts, seeds, gluten free grains, trail mixes, dried fruit, etc.

I love scouring the bins for staples and seasonal favorites. The bulk bins allow me to get the exact amount I want or need, which means less food waste, less packaging, and more savings for me. These are gluten free items I buy from the bulk bins that I always make sure we have on hand:

  • Chocolate chips

  • Dried Cranberries

  • Raisins

  • Dates

  • Pecans

  • Walnuts

  • Pistachios

  • Almonds

  • Almond Flour

  • Coconut Flour

  • Popcorn kernels

  • Chia seeds

I transfer all of these to resealable containers (see the photo of my pantry) when I get home to help reduce our plastic use and keep them fresh!

And these are some of my favorite name brand gluten free pantry staples that Sprouts has amazingly low prices on:

  • Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour

  • Coconut Sugar

  • Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers

  • Jersey Tomato Co. Tomato Sauce

  • Banza Pasta

  • Lundberg Farms Brown Rice

  • Simple Mills Baking Mixes

  • LoveGrown Cereals

  • Nature’s Path Organic EnviroKids Cereals

  • Wild Planet Canned Tuna

Stocking a gluten free kitchen on a budget: Refrigerator staples

There’s four categories of staples I like to have in my refrigerator at all times:

  • Produce

  • Beverages

  • Condiments

  • Eggs

Here’s what I always make sure to grab at Sprouts since they have the best prices:

  • Produce: Blueberries, avocados, leafy greens, cucumbers, carrots, grapes, apples

  • Beverages: whole milk, unsweetened almond milk, juice of some kind to treat my low blood sugars when needed, sparkling water

  • Condiments: maple syrup, salsa, jam/jelly, ketchup, salad dressings, pesto, hummus

  • Sprouts brand gluten free chicken nuggets

  • Brazi Bites

  • GoodPop popsicles

  • So Delicious coconut milk ice cream

  • Sprouts brand frozen fruits and veggies: Broccoli, Dragonfruit, Blueberries, Riced Cauliflower
